ICISG Promotional Webinar & Update

Hello everyone,

Welcome to 2020!

It’s with great pleasure that I write to welcome you to a new year, and to provide you with an update from the International Cancer Information Services Group (ICISG).

An Update from the Board

Our Board Members came together for a face-to-face meeting in Oslo, Norway, hosted by The Norwegian Cancer Society as one of our member organisations, in September 2019. Our focus for the meeting was to review both our current governance structure and our Strategic Plan.

As a result of these discussions, we have transitioned to a Chair and Deputy Chair Model. With the departure of Kevin Babb (formerly from the American Cancer Society), I have assumed the role of Chair and am pleased to report that Laura Burnett (Vice President, Cancer Information and Support Services, Canadian Cancer Society) has assumed the role of Deputy Chair – congratulations Laura!

With these roles now in place, we will work as a Board to review our Strategic Plan and priorities further, with a renewed focus on increasing our membership, improving promotion of our work to existing and new members and in engaging with our membership to support best-practice sharing and assistance in developing and implementing Cancer Information and Support Services around the world.

I look forward to updating you all on this work, and in the meantime I would encourage you to re-visit our ICISG website. There you will find more information about our Board (who we are, where we work etc), about our work, and will be able to access a wide range of existing tools and resources to support you in your own work – particularly for those who are developing their services.

Visit to the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)
While abroad, Kevin and I were able to visit the UICC offices in Geneva, Switzerland. We were privileged to be able to present to the UICC team on the work of ICISG and to discuss strategies for further partnership, support and cross-promotion. UICC have been instrumental in supporting the work of ICISG to date, and in linking UICC members who are wanting to implement, develop or improve their Cancer Information and Support services with ICISG so that we can provide tailored guidance, mentorship and resources in this space.
