Senior Program Manager; National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Candace Deaton Maynard, M.P.A, is the Senior Program Manager for the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Contact Center and Patient Inquiries Branch, within the Office of Communication and Public Liaison. The Contact Center, also known as NCI’s Cancer Information Service (CIS), is a federally funded program that was established in 1975 as an essential part of NCI’s cancer education and information efforts. For over 40 years, NCI’s Contact Center has been providing scientifically based, unbiased information to patients, their families and friends, physicians and other health professionals, and the public about all aspects of cancer.

In this role, Ms. Maynard oversees the execution of the Contact Center’s contract activities, and its integration into NCI programs and priorities. Candace is also responsible for establishing strategic partnerships within the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Health and Human Services, and with other government agencies and national partners.

Candace has over 17 years of combined experience in cancer control, research, program management, and evaluation of communications programs. Candace is a graduate of West Virginia University (WVU) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Prior to joining NCI’s Office of Communication and Public Liaison in 2003, Candace spent two years as a Presidential Management Fellow.
